چکیده

Objective: to investigate the efficiency of a device that generates pulsatile flow during constant-speed axial-flow pump operation for use in left ventricular assist devices. Materials and methods. The flow-generating device, hereinafter referred as «pulsator», consists variable hydraulic resistance made form hull. A tube elastic biocompatible material featuring an inner diameter 11 mm is installed inside it. In systolic phase ventricle, due pressure, fully opened, minimizing blood ejection. diastolic phase, suction action operating constant revolutions, partially closes, creating additional flow, which leads reduced aortic pressure. Comparative assessment pulsating non-pulsating modes was carried out on hydrodynamic stand simulated cardiovascular system. following indices were calculated: arterial pressure pulsation (Ip), in-pump (AQ), energy equivalent (EEP) surplus hemodynamic (SHE). Results . When comparing continuous mode, index, SHE index increased by 2.13 ± 0.2, 3.2 2.7 0.15 times, respectively, while EER remained unchanged.

Hemodynamic and exercise performance with pulsatile and continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices.

BACKGROUND Continuous-flow rotary pumps with axial design are increasingly used for left ventricular assist support. The efficacy of this design compared with pulsatile, volume displacement pumps, with respect to characteristics of left ventricular unloading, and exercise performance remains largely unstudied. METHODS AND RESULTS Thirty-four patients undergoing implantation with a pulsatile, ...

Long-Term Management of Pulsatile Extracorporeal Left Ventricular Assist Device

Heart transplantation provides considerable survival benefits for patients with end-stage heart failure, but it is available for only a small fraction of such patients all over the world due to donor shortage. Therefore, many heart transplant candidates require long-term support by a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) while they await transplantation. However, the long-term LVAD support can ...

Effects of continuous-flow versus pulsatile-flow left ventricular assist devices on myocardial unloading and remodeling.

BACKGROUND Continuous-flow left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) are increasingly used for patients with end-stage heart failure (HF). We analyzed the effects of ventricular decompression by continuous-flow versus pulsatile-flow LVADs on myocardial structure and function in this population. METHODS AND RESULTS Sixty-one patients who underwent LVAD implantation as bridge-to-transplant were an...

Axial-Flow, Transvalvular Left Ventricular Assist Device

Background. It has been suggested that left ventricular unloading at the time of reperfusion provides superior infarct salvage over reperfusion alone. The purpose of this study was to show that the Hemopump transvalvular axial-flow left ventricular assist device provides superior left ventricular unloading, ischemic zone collateral blood flow, and infarct size reduction compared with intra-aort...
